Scholarship

The application period for 2024 is OPEN.

SCHOLARSHIP DEADLINE IS SUNDAY, JUNE 30, 2024.

The 2024 NCOKK High School Scholarship is open to all 2024 high school graduates whose family are members of NCOKK. A 200 to 300-word autobiographical essay must be submitted with the application. The essay should cover significant experiences, community involvement, and the qualities of character important to achieving your personal goals. Be sure to comment on your aspirations in terms of your educational (whether you plan to attend college, JC or trade school) and career goals. The scholarship will be accepted with the firm understanding that the applicant must commit to volunteer and assist the Northern California Okinawa Kenjin-Kai for at least two (2) NCOKK events after receiving this scholarship OR can fulfill the required two (2) NCOKK events prior to graduation and after graduation.

Okinawan Emigrants’ Descendant Scholarship Program

The application period for 2024 is CLOSED.

This program selects distinguished overseas students of Okinawan descent and gives them the opportunity to study at universities, businesses, and traditional performing arts institutions in Okinawa.
In order to provide a deeper understanding of Okinawa's rich and distinctive history, culture and customs, the program provides practical experience at companies in Okinawa, and exchanges with the prefectural government. By investing in the next generation, the program builds bridges and networks between Okinawa and Okinawan descendant communities. The purpose of this program is to contribute to international cultural exchange and communication between the prefecture and international students. Specifically, there are courses that allow students to learn the culture of Japan and Okinawa, such as traditional performing arts and the Japanese language. For more information, please visit:

If you are interested in the program, you must email to info@ncokk.org. To complete the application, you need to work with the kenjin-Kai . The deadline is Wednesday, March 27, 2023 (JST).

Uchina Junior Study

The application period for 2024 is CLOSED.

The Uchina Junior Study Program invites students of Okinawan descent to Okinawa Prefecture to learn about the history and culture of Okinawa while staying with young Okinawan people of the same age. The aim is to deepen their understanding and ties to their Okinawan heritage, and to nurture the next generation that will carry on the Worldwide Uchina Network.
